Oakman Shires Cycle Sportive, Sunday 5th May

Our fantastic local cycle sportive is back, and this time we've teamed up with triathlon club Shires Triers to bring you an even better event. With 50k and 70k ride options, the sportive involves a challenging route around the Chiltern Hills, with pub stops along the way, free refreshments and Get Buzzing bars for every rider, as well as free breakfast rolls at the finish. We're also holding a Kids Bike Show in the Greene Room, courtesy of The Little Bike Company, with an additional opportunity to purchase spare inner tubes and accessories on the day.

Chilled out Sundays…. Sundays are about relaxing and tucking into a hearty roast, and we want to help you out with that. We’re hosting live music on the first Sunday of every month to create that perfect chilled out atmosphere. The first session is kicking off this Sunday 24th March, and will be the first Sunday of every month thereafter. 3-6pm in the bar area

Finally, another bank holiday weekend is upon us at the end of March, and Easter is a perfect time to make the most of some time off and to spend more time with friends and family. From Friday 29th March to 1st April, we'll be offering Easter food specials, with a delicious traditional Sunday roast on Easter Sunday. Bring the children along for some family time, a hot chocolate and a cake should do the trick! Make the most of an extra few nights of drinking, or relax with a lazy brunch over the long weekend. We'll sort the rest for you.

It's that time of the year again - that perfect opportunity to show your mother your appreciation when it matters most. That's why we're offering champagne breakfast; for something different that will be the perfect treat, served from 9am to midday on Sunday 10th March. For the traditionalists, our usual Sunday Roast will hit the spot. With premium 100% British beef from Aubrey Allen, golden roast potatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables, light and crispy Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy, there's nothing not to like. Our a la carte lunch and dinner menus will also be available throughout the day, and for a fail safe option, our wine list and cocktail menu are always a good option!  

The Great Tring Raffle, 28th January

We couldn't resist when we were approached by Tring School students who were set a 'Dragon's Den Apprentice Challenge' to turm £100 into £1,000 for the Tring History Museum, and had decided to set up 'The Great Tring Raffle' to raise these funds.  The Akeman offered to be proud sponsor and host for The Great Tring Raffle, which will be held on 28th January at The Akeman.

It's also a Friday night this year so it's an ideal excuse to rid yourself of those January blues and get out and have some fun. We'll be showcasing some Scottish specials, created by our Head Chef for the occasion, and we'll also be recommending some whiskies for you to try alongside!

Featuring Berkofest talent Henry Parker, the beautiful Odette and some other local talent, it will be worth seeing! We're famous! Apart from being famous for our great food and drink, we're also going to be lapping up our five minutes of fame because next week, we're on TV! A few months ago we were paid a visit by the lovely Kirsty and Phil from the Channel 4 programme Location, Location Location, as they used The Akeman to film some of the show. The episode featuring our lovely pub is being aired on 13th September  at 8pm. We'll be screening it in the courtyard garden if you'd like to join us for a beverage or two!

Oakman Inns Cycle Sportive, Sunday 21st October

The Oakman Inns Cycle Sportive is back for 2012, taking place on Sunday 21st October. Last year's inaugural event saw over 50 riders taking part in the challenge, and this year hopes to be an even bigger event with London 2012 and the Tour de France fresh in people's minds. 

Paralympic Torch Cocktail Party

The Paralympic torch relay is coming through Tring on Tuesday 28th August, and we want to get involved in the celebrations so we're throwing a cocktail party from 8pm onwards. The torch will be coming through Tring from 11.10pm, so kickstart this momentous evening with a few special cocktails. We'll also be serving some hot soup outside the front so you can warm up and get in position to see the flame bearers in all their glory.

Frankie says relax! This August bank holiday weekend we're throwing an 80s party to celebrate the long weekend, so chill out, have some fun, and take advantage of the extra day off. A facelift for The Akeman

Since the inaugural opening in December 2007, The Akeman has seen hundreds of thousands of people walk through its doors and over 2 million meals and drinks served, and to be honest, it's looking a little bit loved. So we have decided to treat it to a little pampering weekend to put some '10 years younger' freshness back into it. While it's having its makeover, The Akeman will be closed on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th July, re-opening on Wednesday 18th at 12 noon. We can't wait to give all the wrinkles something of a facelift, and with a few brand new large squidgy sofas coming in, it's going to look and feel even better than it usually does. And that's saying something! Come along after Wednesday midday and check out the new and improved fresh-faced Akeman.
