The Akeman sponsors Chairman for London to Brighton Bike Ride
24.Jun.2010
The Akeman proudly sponsored Mike Smith, Chairman of Oakman Inns & Restaurants, and his fellow team of cyclists during the 54 mile London to Brighton bike ride last weekend.
All donning The Akeman branded t-shirts, Mike and his team cycled alongside 27,000 cyclists for the UK’s largest charity cycle event, in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
The team set off from Clapham Common among staggered starts from 6am, hoping to reach Brighton seafront within the standard expected time of 6 hours, despite the high point of Ditchling Beacon standing at a lofty 814ft.
After approximately 10 hours of cycling, and a substantial number of pub stop-offs, Mike and his team cycled through the finishing post holding hands in a line, in an impressive showcase of The Akeman branding.
The event, which has been running since 1974, hoped to hit a fundraising target of £4.5m this year. While his team contributed to this commendable sum via sponsorship funds, Mike has since enjoyed yet another well-deserved celebratory pint at The Akeman for his hard efforts – this time without the famed t-shirts!
