The Akeman played host to a dynamic political question and answer session with David Gauke, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South West Hertfordshire, bringing together lively discussion among local businesses, charities and residents regarding the pressing issues facing the constituency.

The Akeman proudly sponsored Mike Smith, Chairman of Oakman Inns & Restaurants, and his fellow team of cyclists during the 54 mile London to Brighton bike ride last weekend.
All donning The Akeman branded t-shirts, Mike and his team cycled alongside 27,000 cyclists for the UK’s largest charity cycle event, in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The Akeman has launched a new bar and bar snacks menu, allowing customers to order as much or as little as they like from a variety of smaller dishes now on the menu. Choose from a variety of dips, crudites, breads, or other smaller dishes, if you would like something larger choose from our special boards, or maybe you just fancy a bowl of mixed salted nuts.

The Akeman will be launching their new Autumn/Winter menu this Tuesday 13th October. The new menu has been designed by Head Chef Carlo Tolu, to reflect the change in season and availability of fresh products. In addition to the new menu, there will be a selection of ever changing daily special dishes. To ensure all staff are trained to their usual high standards, The Akeman will not be serving food on Monday 12th October between 3pm and 6pm.

The Akeman has once more been recognised by the important industry magazine, The Publican, and is a finalist for The Drinks Pub of the Year Award 2009. The finals are due to take place on November 3rd. The Akeman was shortlisted due to the variation, quality and competitiveness of its drink offering, as well as the general atmosphere of the bar. A team from The Akeman will be attending the awards ceremony in central London, where they hope to bring back another trophy to go alongside the one they won last year for Design of the Year.

Oakman Inns took part in the Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning on September 25th, held in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support, by holding coffee mornings at The Akeman in Tring and The Old Post Office in Wallingford, where they raised over £320.
